Wild Arms 5 (PS2/US-PAL)

I dared to try a game during my first trimestre, and did succeed, as long as I left the internal camera alone.

Wild Arms 5

As for all the recent Wild Arms, it is a Western-half-futuristic style, with Cell Shading, with a very likeable style. I like the fact that some equipements change the appearence of the characters, but the landscapes are not of exceptional beauty or quality.
Grade: 8.5 / 10

A music in phase with the style, but not at the level of what we got for the first. I think there has been a lowering in the quality compared to the prior Wild Arms. Not that it is bad, just less good.
Grade: 7.5 / 10

Fight commands are really simple (a list of choices), on the world map too. The only difficulty can be in dungeons with the aim system that sometimes does not work correctly (you have to move several times to get a point / object / character to be taken as target), but the “tests” to open doors and such can always be solved by thinking and not using manual skills.
Grade: 9 / 10
Un combat / A battle
The hexagonal “menu” left, the action order up, and life and magic points down right.

Length / Sidequests
Ah, the secondary quests in Wild Arms… this episode is no exception, the length of the game being already nice, and there are all the secondary quests to do (Sol Nigers, special monsters, Puzzles, …), without counting a city to rebuild. On this aspect, Wild Arms 5 certainly does not lack anything.
Grade: 9.5 / 10

Story / characters
Well, it is perhaps because I know RPGs and Wild Arms too well, but… I saw the story coming from the begining. All right, it is nice, with some funny characters (the Professeur, for example…) and relatioship in the group are fun to follow. Still, I would have like something deeper.
Grade: 7.5 / 10

In the end…
A good RPG, not a must have, but if you like “classical” RPGs and / or Western with something more ambiance, get this game.
Final grade: 8.4 / 10

One Response to “Wild Arms 5 (PS2/US-PAL)”

  1. Mon préféré ayant été le 2 (ron, ron! les persos ^^), de toute façon j’accroche toujours autant au concept des WA. C’est pas tout ça, mais j’ai encore Filgaea à sauver… une fois encore !!!
