Wild Arms 4 (PS2 / US ou PS2 / PAL)

Well, I recently converted my Wild Arms alter code F save to a special Wild Arms 4 save, so I can finally tell you a bit about that game, even if it is not really new.

Graphics
Not bad, but (in my opinion), not quite to the level of what the PS2 can do. Still good. Original, with different costumes and designs for each person / monster / … The poisoned zone, for example, visually rendered with a kind of dark pink static, looks rather impressive. Not many glitches (or few that I encountered)
Grade: 8 / 10

Music
A soundtrack with known themes, but also new ones, and in a general manner, a very beautiful work. The detail is thorough up to the point where the “shouts” of the monsters are those of WA ACF! And there are some nice new themes for new characters, too, worth listening.
Grade: 9 / 10

Gameplay
This is where the problem lies. While it is a rpg and it has long parts where thinking before going is enough (using tools, slow down, …), several moments (ventilator, two laser “wheels”, …) rely only on the manual skill of the player. I find that a shame. At least, the fight system is a simple choice in some menus, and it is not very complicated to control the combat ground system of 7 hexagons including 3 with an element.
Grade: 7 / 10

Length / Sidequests
On the level of the main story, I find it really short. I expected more. There are objects “to create”, monsters and treasures “to be collected”, but…
Grade: 7 / 10

Story / characters
The story of a 12 years old boy who finds himself a very strong weapon… there’s a priestess, a magician, and a brute. Well, not very original, still, it is appealing. But… certain topics/ideas made me think of Arc The Lad (1+2).
Grade: 7 / 10

In the end…
Not a total loss, but I would not recommend it unless you are really fan of the Wild Arms series or in need of a rpg…
Final grade: 7.6 / 10

Flattr this!

One Response to “Wild Arms 4 (PS2 / US ou PS2 / PAL)”

  1. Aha. Le jeu vient de sortir en PAL. Bon, c’est à vous de voir si le fait que y’aie moins de choix en rpgs fait que vous êtes motivés…
